In Kentucky, nearly 1.4 million adults do not have an educational degree past high school. With a postsecondary degree (college education or trade school) being required by 63% of employers by 2031, the incentive to create more opportunities within the population is a primary goal for the state.
Financial challenges, family obligations, academic readiness, and work commitments are all factors that come into play for many adults without a postsecondary education. These barriers are the primary reason many do not possess a higher education, and ultimately continue to widen the educational gap between those who attend college or trade school and those who don’t.
The state launched an educational attainment goal by 2031, stating 60% of the population will have a postsecondary education. Systems including, learner communities, childcare support, workforce partnership opportunities, and professional development, have been launched to encourage and support the adult learners community through their educational journey.
