In a time where most watches are electric, it’s hard to imagine the innovation it really is. Accutron’s creation of these watches were not only popular at the time, but went far beyond the scopes of Earth. These electric watches, famous for their inside-out design, have inspired buildings and shoe designs alike.
The real impressive feat though was the Accutron watch made for space. This watch was resistant to g-forces, temperature change, and was extremely precise. All these factors made it perfect for space travel. Ending up on over 40 different Apollo missions in one way or another.
Back on Earth these watches inspired Nike Air Max Ones. It’s a surprising fact to hear, but the bubble design was unheard of at the time. The inside out design of the watch inspired architecture that directly inspired the Air Force Ones. It’s no exaggeration to say, without electric watches the most iconic sneaker would not exist.
