When it comes to traveling whether you are doing so for business or for a holiday, or touring it can be challenging. Extended hours on a plane, hectic agendas, and long days can all put stress on the mind and the body. Staying healthy when traveling is incredibly important just as important as packing your passport and ensuring that you have renewed your European Health Insurance Card.
Making sure that you stay healthy does in fact involved more than just preventing getting sick; it also means eating a well-balanced diet to avoid sluggish and tired feelings. When we all travel no matter what it is for, we are all guilty of being lax on our routines and having tendencies to indulge, which of course what holidays and traveling is about. Here is a few tips to take on board before, during and after you board.
#1 Hygiene
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to traveling whether it is taking the train or stepping on a plane is being stuck and surround by a bunch of people who may be coughing and sneezing. Public transport is one of the most unhygienic spaces, so to combat this and stay healthy frequently by simply washes your hands and pack a small bottle of hand sanitizer. Try to avoid touching your face too as this can lead to infection when germs are lurking.
#2 Eat Healthy
On your travels if you happen to be staying in a little apartment you will be able to prepare your own meals, which is a great way to eat healthy and be cost effective too. If you are staying in a hotel, and don’t have access to a kitchen then eating a well-balanced diet could be a little more difficult, however there are ways to combat this. Pack healthy snacks such as granola bars, nuts, dark chocolate and fruit. All of these snacks are great for on the road, at the airport or for during a busy day of sightseeing. Try to have at least one healthy meal per day, the key is to eat everything in moderation and commit to making at least one meal a day which is healthy and fresh.
#3 Stay Hydrated
If you don’t stay hydrated throughout the day you can suffer from headaches and many other things. It is very important to stay hydrated and drink as much water as you can, within moderation. By simply traveling with a reusable water bottle, you will be able to fill it up and stay hydrated throughout the day.
#4 Keep Active
Keeping fit and implementing a regular exercise routine is an essential to stay healthy. Exercise can also help boost your immune system and can relieve stress if your business meetings aren’t panning out how you want them too.
#5 Good Night’s Sleep
If you get less than 6 hours a night when you are on business trip and have a busy schedule then that is not healthy. Aim to get around 8 hours a night this will ensure your body, mind and brain are well rested.
#6 Regular Routine
Even though you are traveling aim to stick to your regular routine as much as possible. As this can help prevent illness and you will feel more comfortable in your new destination. When you get back at home you also won’t feel at a lost as your routine shouldn’t have changed too much.
#7 Practice Gratitude
Although this may sound odd, practicing gratitude while traveling can calm you down from stressful situations. If you can make a note of a few things that you are thankful for each night it can help you stay focus and appreciate how fortune you are to be able to travel.
