Going abroad for business trips can be exciting, but the whole experience can also be a daunting one. Whatever is at stake, you want to ensure you make a good impression and that everything goes smoothly. Here’s a list of things to bring with you to give you peace of mind for your next business trip to the United States of America.
1. A good folder
Bear with us on this one. A good secure folder can really make a business trip run more smoothly. Keep a print-out of your itinerary in the folder, along with everything you need to book into your hotels and check into your flights, as well as a list of key contacts for your trip, in case you need to get in touch with anyone and you can’t get online with your smartphone. You can also keep travel receipts and business cards in here – it just helps you keep everything together and stay organized!
2. A visa or other permission to travel
Depending on where you’re traveling from, you may or may not need a visa for your business trip to the States. From many countries it isn’t necessary to get a visa for trips of up to 90 days – and you can show this by getting a quick ESTA waiver. This is the kind of thing that would be kept safe in your folder!
3. All your necessary tech
Technology plays a huge role in modern business. Remember to charge your laptop and phone and any other devices before you leave, in case you need to work on the journey, and don’t forget your chargers! It’s a good idea to pack them in the same bag as the devices themselves, so you’re always sure where to find them if you need a quick battery boost.
If you’re going to be giving a presentation, make sure you have it in various forms – on a flash drive in your pocket, on your laptop, or saved in an online backup. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially when you’re flying potentially thousands of miles to give that presentation!
4. Smart clothes that travel well
You’re probably used to the idea of what constitutes business dress. But when traveling to a business meeting far away, there’s something else to consider – how well your business dress travels. It’s important to bring clothes that can handle being in a suitcase for a while. Invest in high quality shirts that will last, and make sure you know how to fold them for travel before you pack.
5. And finally … toiletries!
You don’t want to show up at your business meeting with bad breath! Make sure you’ve got a toothbrush with you and travel sized tooth paste. Make sure you don’t go over the fluid limits for hand luggage, though!
