A Guest Post by Ariane Fisher of Storymix Media
Is it just me or are most podcasts annoying? You get that great view up someone’s nose from their webcam as they drone on incessantly about whatever is most important to them. Don’t be that guy! I’m Ariane, Creative Director with Storymix Pro, and I’m here to save you from making a boring podcast.
What is a podcast?
A podcast is a way of getting content to your viewers without a 20 page dissertation of text. Sure, the text is great for SEO, but the fact is that many people prefer video. There are certain things that just look better in video. For instance, we’re creating a series of podcasts for our followers on StorymixWeddings blog about how to shoot video at your wedding. It wouldn’t do a lot of good to describe bad video in text — it’s much easier to just show you!
So what are you going to tell me that I can’t already find on the web?
You can find a lot of excellent technical resources for how to film a video. There isn’t much out there for those without a video background. I promise not to use too many acronyms or technical lingo. When that sort of thing is needed, I’ll link to places where you can find more in-depth direction.
Over the next several posts in this series I will walk you through the basics of creating a podcast. Here’s what we’ll cover:
- Brainstorming your content
- Crafting the story
- Setting up the Shoot
- Shooting Your Video
- Refining Your Video
- Marketing Your Video
Here’s what we will not cover:
- How to copy Gary Vaynerchuck – the WineTV guy
- How to get 25,000 Twitter followers
- How to use a [fill in the blank with some technical thing like… steadicam]
- How to edit in your particular software program
But here’s what I will do — provide lots of links to technical resources for you to find the answers if you want that type of detail. By the way, if you do figure out how to get 25,000 followers on Twitter, make sure you let me know.
