I am a sucker for graphs and Creative Class always delivers! This is a wonderful post on how lack development, creativity and education create failed states. You can certainly apply this to failed cities right here in the US. I think that when there is nothing “going on” or more specifically, no real progress, then people lose hope. With no hope, no future and nothing to do, they tend to hunker down and focus on the basics of survival. This survival mode can easily lead to corrupt leaders taking over and exploiting the down and out for selfish gains. Encouraging development seems like a way to reverse that.
