A lot of my friends are switching to Macs because of Microsoft Vista. For some reason, Vista is just horrible to work with. You need to relearn where everything is and it seems like it is trying to rip off the Mac OS look and feel. I guess people figure that if they have to relearn an OS, might as well be a Mac.
I switched to a Mac about 2 years ago and will never go back. My switch was prompted by my Toshiba tablet PC completely crashing after a security update. It turns out that the tablet had a different version of Windows than the mainstream release and that is what completely crashed all of the drivers, etc. It got so frustrating that I wasted like 3 days trying to rebuild my system only to discover that it was still messed up.
There are a lot of PeeCee zealots that will just not switch and think that Vista is just wonderful. There are just as many Mac zealots as well. For me, it is a case of having something that works every time. I am sick of having to rebuild, put virus software on and constantly update to the latest and greatest. All I want is for the thing to work when I open it up.
To be fair, I have had one problem with my Mac. It was after a software update and it completely hosed my system. Luckily, I had a backup that I could boot off of. I now always backup my system just before I upgrade, even on my bullet proof Mac.
