I have gotten into the habit of writing in the morning before work. I usually dedicated a half an hour to jot down thoughts for stories. This proves to be a really good time for me to focus since it is quiet and I can concentrate. If I miss my early morning writing appointment, I can usually write on the train. That is how I got most of my book done. The weekends are also good since there is a little more time to ponder before writing.
The usual length of each free write is 300 – 900 words and some days it is just a struggle to get the thoughts out. One good thing that I started to do is observe people around me and what they are doing. I mostly write about business and the frustrations I am having at work. Sometimes I divert and write about endurance sports or even a conversation I had with a friend.
What I really need to focus on is editing and making the stories flow a bit more. I can get the ideas down but struggle to put them together in a rational way. Maybe the problem is I just don’t like to revise or think about what I have already written since it seems so stale. Figuring out how to get past that is a major thing that will help my finished product.
In week 6, we need to turn in a 1-4 page piece that is completed. I think the power law creativity or maybe tell the whole truth one will work. Some of the exercises have a good start but I am not sure if I can get them polished enough to be ready.
