This morning, I went the long bike way to work. It took about 4 hours and turned out to be 55 miles. The long way includes a bunch of hills that the short way does not have. The hills, along HWY 35, have spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding bay. Today, the weather was mild and temperature make the ride enjoyable.
The only downside to riding to work the long way is that it really makes you tired climbing up all those hills. Your overall productivity goes down a bit but the experience is worth it. The ride home, from the train, should be uneventful and I hope it is not too windy. For some reason, the psychology of wind makes it that much harder to peddle even though it might not be that bad.
One thing is for sure. I need a new rear tire. It is almost square and that is a sure sign of wear. These tires have been great. I have put well over 1000 miles on them with no flats (knock on wood). There were definitely worth the $50 a piece. Before the deathride, I really need to change them. It would be such a let down to have tire problems that could have been prevented.
